Sharing VA Wines

We loved sharing (and drinking) a few of our VA wines with our out of state family guests this weekend. Narmada Cab Franc and Mattaponi strawberry, though polar opposites, were the top two choices.

  1. We are often asked which winery is our favorite. There is no answer to this question. We like many wineries for different reasons because we are about the experience - wine, people, atmosphere... But if we are asked for a least favorite, we can come up with some responses. One of the things that can ruin the experience are snobbish owners or servers. A word to the wise. Describing a wine as "red on training wheels" is offensive to those of us who may like reds that are not overly dry. Everyone has a different palate. Be sensitive to that and try not to impose your tastes on someone else.

  2. Went to Moonlight Stomp at AhRhien a few weeks ago. It was 5-10. They had wine tasting, food for sale, huge tents to sit under, grape stomping w/ photos, a bonfire, and a band. It was a wonderful event. Wish we lived closer and could attend more of their events.

  3. Went to the wine fest at Bull Run in Centreville last weekend. 41 wineries plus food and other vendors. We got a so-so gyro. The wine was great. They had 3 bands. THe first was not our thing, but we enjoyed the Beatle band - Abbey Road Live, and loved The Contours. They had stuff for kids but I think it is questionable to bring any kids that are not preschool age to a drinking event. They did not allow pets, which was nice. Very crowded.
