Mission Goal Accomplished

On Saturday, October 18, 2014, almost exactly 6 years after we began our quest, we reached an impressive milestone. We visited Winery 32 for our 199th winery. Then ... Drum roll please ... We made it to #200 - Creek's Edge. What an impressive place it is.  We spent most of the afternoon drinking their wonderful Cab Franc, snacking, playing Password, and laughing. What a great time we had.

So, the previous paragraph was a quick post to share our accomplishment.  We're back at our homes, tired but happy.  Here's the back story:

The four of us became friends when we moved next door to each other in 2001.  We were mostly beer drinkers with the occasional detour to other potables.  Then, for well over a year, a health issue kept Diane from consuming any alcohol.  When she finally received a diagnosis, she was told she could resume drinking but to stay away from carbonated and hard alcohol.

Wine was the logical solution, so the four of us decided to attend a local wine festival.  We novices, but we enjoyed it.  One of use (who remembers?) suggested we make a weekend trip to Charlottesville and visit a few wineries.  After three days and eight wineries, we fell in love.  Back then there were only about 185 wineries, so setting a goal of visiting them all seemed distant but doable.

Hence began our journey.  After 30 wine weekends, we were approaching the milestone of #200.  We stopped at 198 and began planning the weekend that just ended.  High expectations did not disappoint us.  We certainly enjoyed #199 at Winery 32, but we settled in at Creeks Edge.  After a very thorough tasting, we bought a bottle of wine, walked up the spiral staircase, and spent the afternoon having a grand old time.
