Welcome to the PoLo Wine Club Blog

The PoLo Wine Club members (all four of them) have one mission: to visit every winery in the state of Virginia. The actual number appears elusive. On our visit to Crooked Run last September, they told us they had been only open a week and that they were #144.

So far, we've been to 49 wineries, most of them during one of our Magical Mystery Tours, but a few by themselves. So far we have done the Long and Winery Road I (Charlottesville area); the Long and Winery Road II (Northern Neck and Fredericksburg); Winestock I (northern part of I-81); Winestock II (Waynesboro area); the infamous Manassas U-Turn Tour (MUTT), the day after the VA Wine Festival; and the disappointing Eastern Shore Tour. This weekend will be part I of the Capitol Tour, which will include the dozens of wineries in Northern VA. We have hit as few as one winery in a day and as many as seven, but records are made to be broken.

My favorite so far? Stone Mountain, about 45 minutes from Massanutten. The drive up the mountain is wild, but the view and the wine are both spectaculor. Other sentimental favorites: Cooper (for the girls), Kluge (for the cheese), Ingleside (for the variety and generosity), Mattaponi (AKA "Mad Pony" . . . for their back porch), and Crooked Run (last but certainly not least).

Any disagreements?
